Buodoir: My DIY Prenatal Photo Shoot
A woman's body has always been capable of many things. It is very admirable that God made it able to carry and nourish another human being for 9 months and eventually introduce this whole new person in the world with its strength.
I was never really self-conscious about my body ever since as I was very active even before motherhood. When I became pregnant, I have never loved and cared for my body even more.
My "On this day..." on Facebook was lately throwing me back to memories of my pregnancy days. Most photos I enjoyed looking back were from my prenatal photo shoot. A prenatal photo shoot may sound glamorous but mine really is not. And it does not have to be.
The possibility of me having my prenatal photo shoot was not possible it if were not for my cousin, Boyang Manuel. She amazingly agreed to take our photos. It was something I really wanted to do then and I was really excited about the outcome. After we agreed, we had set the date, browsed photos that we are inspired about and went through with it.
Details of our DIY Pre-natal photoshoot:

Our chosen theme was "buodoir" simply because being pregnant made me feel my sexiest. We wanted to keep it classy and intimate, similar to how pregnancy was to me.
For the dressy part, I decided to wear a plain, black dress that looks a bit old-fashioned. I absolutely love the shape of my bump underneath the garment.

The butterflies he used to give me turned into little feet.
Back then, we were a family of 3 with our furbaby, Maxwell. Of course, our prenatal shoot would not be complete without his presences
"Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole."
- Roger Caras
I have been in an active lifestyle prior to my pregnancy. Wearing black sports bra and black shorts just made sense. It definitely showed the sporty side of me.
"The only creatures that are evolved enough to convey pure love are dogs and infants."
- Johnny Depp
"Happiness is a warm puppy."
- Charles M. Schulz
"Every puppy should have a boy."
- Erma Bombeck
That quote was just perfect since we were having a boy!
"A dog wags its tail with its HEART..."
-Martin Buxbaum
The 3D ultrasound shot of our little one was also a must presence in our photo shoot. As of that moment, it was only the indication of what our baby may look like.
We're in love with with a child we haven't met yet.
The joy and hardship of pregnancy cannot be complete without the presence and support of my husband who loves me so much. A pregnancy is not a "me" thing. It is an "us" thing. It is a love of two people multiplied.
"Giving birth and being born brings us into the essence of creation, where the human spirit is courageous and bold and the body, a miracle of wisdom."
- Harriette Hartigan
Buodoir would not be complete without bearing it all. With pro-creation, you have to bear it all with your heart and soul. You give your partner everything you are, blessed with the ability to produce an offspring from your love.
"There is such a special sweetness in being able to participate in creation."
- Pamela S. Nadav
Planning our prenatal shoot was definitely fun and exciting. It definitely completed my whole pregnancy experience and made it even more memorable. It can be tiring as well which is evident on the next photo. LOL.
I had a blast in my and my cousin's brainstorming on the possible poses and shots we can do. Many of these were inspired from existing prenatal photo shoots. I just love how our little DIY photo session came about! Here is an IG post of my cousin while we take a break of all of this!
Having a prenatal photo shoot is definitely something fun to add in a woman's pregnancy memoirs. I strongly believe it is something every pregnant woman should do so long as she sticks to something she is comfortable with. Pregnancy is a woman's milestone worth celebrating.
