Why being with a "FitBod" guy rocks!
The idea of the "dadbod" has been trending lately on the internet and I do have a lot to say about this (I ranted about it on Facebook!). What I truly do not like about it is the fact that there are certain standards being set unfairly for the kind of body fathers are expected to have.
Due to this fad, having an unhealthy and sedentary lifestyle appears to be encouraged when becoming a dad or even before getting into that stage of life! For someone who advocates living healthy, this is just not acceptable. And this is the very reason I am writing this article.

What the hell am I talking about?
To give a gist of the article written that introduced the "Dadbod" concept: the writer listed her reasons as to why she would rather date a guy with a "dadbod" than a guy with a fit body. I totally cringed while reading it because basically, what makes her feel good about herself was the fact that she's with someone who's body is average looking (she even opted to go forth and mention the presence of a beer belly) and she feels like guys with dadbod will less likely cheat on her. She has this general idea that fit guys are boring who starve themselves. She did mention that she prefers hugging fluffy guys and that part is already her personal preference so I have nothing against that.
Another article introduced the female alternative or "Mombod" but the article mostly explains the changes that a woman's body goes through when she gets pregnant and gives birth (plus, the fact that our metabolism slows down as we get older). This is something that men do not go through for obvious reasons. The article was actually more of an empowerment to women showing mothers in different shapes and sizes, showing off their bodies after giving birth.
What are these "Bod" types?
Before I proceed with my list, here are my definitions of the two terms above plus my newly added term for men who are in a healthy and active lifestyle which, I call the "Fitbod":Dadbod - the stereotypical "daddy" body developed through a sedentary lifestyle who may not be concerned about his overall health. It has less visibility of muscles due to them being covered by fats. Just to be fair, this kind of body is not really just for fathers. It just happens that the chances of having this kind of body during fatherhood are higher due to being busy with work and taking care of their kids, often resulting to negligence in their health. Added to this, as we get older, our metabolism slows down.

Fitbod - a body of someone who is into a healthy and active lifestyle. This kind of body does not need to have the presence of muscles or abs since a "fit" body is also subjective depending on the chosen sport or activity that one does. For example, a runner's definition of a "fitbod" is different from a weightlifter or a bodybuilder or even a football player. So there is no general description for a Fitbod, so long as the person is fit enough for his/her goals.

So what's my point?
Personally, I would describe myself as someone with an active lifestyle. I workout regularly through strength training and CrossFit and I do dragon boat paddling (haven't had time to do this other sport of mine lately though). I make sure I allot enough time for my physical activities because I can't stand not having any of it as a part of my day! I care about the amount of sleep I get and the kind of nutrition I absorb though to be honest, I am not much of a clean eater as I love to indulge myself with sweets.
I am in a world where seeing guys' abs in person or in social media is normal and where women can lift weights that are heavier than them. Being a man or a woman is just about having that gender but the expectations from each in terms of work and effort are just the same. My environment reinforces the importance of a great athletic performance as much as having a nice body, if not more.
There are some people who do workout for aesthetic reasons such us bodybuilders, fitness models and even actors. But that is something I can't touch because it's not a world I'm familiar with. However, I do respect the choice they made for their sport/hobby/career.
Considering this, I just could not find myself being with anyone who does not share the same lifestyle as I do. That is why I am lucky and proud to say that I am with my fitbod guy and here are my reasons why it is better to settle with one:

1. Fun and always game for anything!
Contrary to everyone's belief, a guy with a fitbod is not the type of guy who just spends his whole day working out in the gym or monitoring the food they eat.Yes, it is part of their lifestyle but it does not take up 24 hours of their day. Fit guys are more than boring!
He loves challenges and he's not afraid to test his own capacity (but not to the extent that he would hurt himself!). This is the same for my partner who must have tried all kinds of sports he possibly can!
The thing I noticed about people that get into an active lifestyle is that they have also become adventurous and open to new things! This is the same for me when I got into this world and I find it exciting to try outdoor activities and to travel as much as we can (so long as our budget can handle it haha!).
I need someone who's willing to try any crazy adventures I have in mind and I am lucky that my boyfriend is up for it! I think it is safe to generalize this since this is something I have observed with the fit guys I know. When one becomes open to the world of health and fitness, this openness extends to many other possible things you are willing to try.
2. More balanced well-being
The thing about a fit guy is that because he has an active lifestyle, he makes it a point to take the time to care about his health and overall well-being.
He tries his best to manage and balance work and life. He ensures he eats properly and have enough sleep.
This kind of lifestyle also affects his attitude towards work and towards dealing with stress and challenges in his life. Having a healthy lifestyle has positive effects on a person physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and even spiritually.
3. Disciplined, focused and committed
It takes a lot of discipline and focus in order to start, continue and maintain a healthy lifestyle. And if this is something that he can do with his health, it also means it something he can do in anything in his life. And that is a good determination on how much drive he can have when he has a goal.It is something I witness in all my acquaintances with "fitbod" and I respect them a lot because of this. It is also something I see in my partner that inspires me to have the same attitude in anything I do.
The thing that I seldom hear is them complaining of something they can't have but not really doing anything about it. The problem with many people is they would start at something but would not be able to maintain and commit to it.
4. Helps you to be healthy yourself
Whether you like it or not, whatever your partner's lifestyle is, you will end up picking it up or he will pick up yours. If one works out a lot and the other does not, the tendency is that the other would also start working out or the other would no longer prioritize training. No matter how much you say that you want the two of you to have your own thing, being in an active lifestyle is a world that is somehow difficult to understand if you are not part of it. Some couples even fight about it when only one person is involved in it.
The great thing about being with my boyfriend is that I am always reminded that I should be concerned about my overall health. We tend to debate about the kind of food we should take but that keeps us to be more knowledgeable about what's good for our body and what's not. We also talk about the workouts we do and how we can benefit from them based on our goals. We discuss about proper recovery and how we deal with stress at work and, simply, in life.
I would like to think that caring about what I eat now and the kind of physical activities I do will help me bring this kind of lifestyle until we get married and have our own family. Imagine having a healthy lifestyle coming into your pregnancy! Even though I am not there yet, I would like to be at my fittest when I get pregnant and ensure that all the nutrition my soon-to-be baby needs will be provided!
Eating is an important aspect of recovery which is something that should not be overlooked when you are in an active lifestyle. Guys with fitbod understand the importance of eating enough to perform well.
These men also sometimes tend to eat anything they want! It is actually kind of frustrating because many guys I know can eat anything they want and still have abs!
But for these guys, it is still a matter of them knowing when it is enough and when it is too much. When one has gotten used to this lifestyle, yes it would still be hard to control yourself when to indulge and when to stop but it would be more manageable. And if you are well-informed, you would understand the impact of your food intake to your body especially when it comes to your athletic performance.
My partner and I absolutely love to eat! When we are with our family, we are always tasked to finish leftover food!
In my experience, it helps more knowing that he can push me to go further, knowing that I can do more than what I think I can do. And this is not just when it comes to approaching a certain workout. This could also apply to the times when there are things in life I have to face that I am not very confident with.
The great thing about being a couple is when the two of you work towards a common goal and get to reap the rewards after at the same time!
There's nothing hotter than a guy who's physical capability is beyond normal with a nice body plus a great mind to match! Or how about that hot guy who is an amazing dancer? Or perhaps he can play a musical instrument too? Whatever other talent this guy has, it shows that he is not just all about his looks but he has substance too.
The fit guys I know are mostly well-educated and have their own career so they know what they are doing when they got themselves into this whole active lifestyle. Come on, they would not be able to afford gym fees and their training gears if they do not have the capacity (just saying!). Well, I can't generalize on this but so far in this little fitness world of mine, that is what I have observed so far from them!
My boyfriend is an ECE graduate who was a scholar in his university. He is currently a Java developer at a reputed company and I really like it when I ask about Web Development when I need assistance and he knows a lot of stuff. It's pretty hot. ;) We also get to talk about saving and investing which are very important aspects of our relationship.
I would like to point out that because fathers do spend their time on health and wellness, it does not mean that the children or even the wife are getting neglected. There are so many amazing fathers I know that can balance work, working out and spending time with their family. Seeing that this as possible, it inspires me to eventually be that same kind of parent with my partner!
Of course, no matter how healthy you can be, your body will eventually get frail and will not be able to perform how it used to when you were younger. BUT, getting into a healthy lifestyle helps!
I have met people who look so much better in their 40s than in their late 20s or 30s just because they started working out late (well, it's never too late to start!). I have also met people who are at their 50s yet they look so much better than people I know at their 40s or 30s. In the CrossFit world, I have read comments of people still doing it at the age of 50s or 60s. I have seen people still running marathon at their senior years! It is truly inspiring!
The great thing about this is that it is not just how you would look when you get older but it is also how your body would be able to perform even at the age when you're expected to not be able to move as much you as you used to.
For my partner and I, I would love to still be able to do the things we do now even when we get old and possibly become grandparents someday! I would love to still be able to run around and carry my granddaughter and not worry about being too old.
Imagine having this super hot guy by your side and you know that he only has his eyes on you. His physique does not define the kind of person he is. He is faithful to you because he is a good person and you relationship is something he values. He genuinely cares about you. He is confident about himself and he uses that confidence to become a good partner to you.
At the end of the day, it is all about what's inside that matters. Regardless of the kind of body a guy has, the goodness of a person should not be solely dependent to it. Many fit guys I know are incomparable to the stereotypical cocky guys with abs who have the tendency to cheat on girls. A guy with dadbod or fitbod... It doesn't matter! He would cheat if he has the intentions. A person's tendency to do what is not right to a woman depends on his level of maturity and on his self-esteem.
DadBod...MomBod...FitBod... Basically, these labels just describe how human bodies could look like. What people forget to consider is that is not just about how the body should look but should also be how you feel about yourself.
In my perspective, you can always have a body that can make you look great AND feel great. I swear it feels amazing to be able to do things you never thought you could ever do. It is the best of both worlds and you can enjoy the benefits just by deciding to go for that active and healthy lifestyle. Having a partner with this same perspective is even better and gives life more excitement.
The world has no limit... So why let your body limit what the world has to offer? :)

6. Pushes you to get better
I have read an article before on how men and women differ whenever they attack a workout. It was mentioned there that men tend to overestimate themselves and women tend to underestimate themselves. If you think about it, those gaps can be filled by each other when you're in a couple. In my experience, it helps more knowing that he can push me to go further, knowing that I can do more than what I think I can do. And this is not just when it comes to approaching a certain workout. This could also apply to the times when there are things in life I have to face that I am not very confident with.

7. More than just a fit guy
There's nothing hotter than a guy who's physical capability is beyond normal with a nice body plus a great mind to match! Or how about that hot guy who is an amazing dancer? Or perhaps he can play a musical instrument too? Whatever other talent this guy has, it shows that he is not just all about his looks but he has substance too.The fit guys I know are mostly well-educated and have their own career so they know what they are doing when they got themselves into this whole active lifestyle. 8. Can be a good role model to your (soon-to-be) children
One day, when we finally have our own children, our dream is to make them try and experience all kinds of sports and activities that they can try. We would gear more towards physical activities and minimize exposing them towards the fast-moving digital world. Knowing that your partner has "been there, done that", our soon-to-be children could easily take their father as a good role model.I would like to point out that because fathers do spend their time on health and wellness, it does not mean that the children or even the wife are getting neglected. There are so many amazing fathers I know that can balance work, working out and spending time with their family. Seeing that this as possible, it inspires me to eventually be that same kind of parent with my partner!
9. Growing old is not about getting old
Aging is mandatory but your body age does not have to get old along with your actual age.Of course, no matter how healthy you can be, your body will eventually get frail and will not be able to perform how it used to when you were younger. BUT, getting into a healthy lifestyle helps!
I have met people who look so much better in their 40s than in their late 20s or 30s just because they started working out late (well, it's never too late to start!). 10. Sex is the great!
Of course, how could I not include that? What is the point of having such a nice body if you and your partner would not be able to appreciate each other? Muscles are amazing to touch especially if you, yourself know how much work and discipline he had put into it.
There are studies saying that sex and training can be complimentary to each other. When you work out, it improves your sex life. When you have sex and orgasm, it can help improve your athletic performance.

I know a couple who both are just amazing with their mobility. Just imagine the wonderful things they can do in bed and... in other places. Also, there are aspects in some exercise movements that can activate certain muscles. When introduced into sex, they could be very pleasurable to couples.
11. He only has his eyes on you
Imagine having this super hot guy by your side and you know that he only has his eyes on you. His physique does not define the kind of person he is. He is faithful to you because he is a good person and you relationship is something he values. He genuinely cares about you. He is confident about himself and he uses that confidence to become a good partner to you.
In Conclusion...
At the end of the day, whoever you choose as your partner, he is just a guy who happens to be at your side. Yes, he may be a very significant part of your life and his existence may affect your decisions in life. One thing that must be understood is that way he looks should not affect how you should feel about yourself. No other person should dictate how you should feel about yourself. Listening to society is so overrated and being a woman who can stand for herself even with a partner is integral.
